The Limba/Mbila Ilimba Drum originates as a traditional ceremonial instrument from Congo, Zimbabwe, Angola, Zambia and Mozambique. The natural tone of the Wooden Stave is matched with the natural tone of the column of air defined by the size and shape of the Gourd Resonating Body resulting in a dynamic sound!

Description

Limba/Mbila-Ilimba Drum Dimensions: 15.5″ tall x 22″ long x 7″ wide. Limba Drum is a traditional ceremonial instrument from Congo, Zimbabwe, Angoa, Mozambique and Zambia. It is played with village made Balafon mallets from Ghana (included with purchase). The frame base is Basswood with Burned and Painted Design. Suspension Arms are Black Walnut with Basswood Braces. The Stave (sound bar) is Orange Heart Wood which is suspended with Cow Leather Strap over a Gourd Resonating Body secured to the frame base with Ivory Coast Goat Skin. The sound is dynamic because of matching the natural tone of the wood Stave with the natural tone of the column of air defined by the size and shape of the Gourd Resonating Body.
